Excel Academy Public Charter School
The + was delivering on an aggressive schedule and budget in two phases to get students and staff in the building and operational by the start of the 2023/24 school year.
This complete building renovation and site redevelopment project for Excel Academy, a K-8 public charter school in Prince George’s County was completed in two phases. Major components of the project included a full building abatement (with asbestos), structural reinforcement (slab, walls, and roof), a new roofing system, full site redevelopment (hardscape and landscape), full site/building utility system, and all new MEP (building/site) equipment (gear, fixtures, wiring, piping, and duct.) The project also featured new finishes, millwork, curtain wall sections and furnishings. Other highlights included a new gymnasium (competitive basketball ready) and several multi-purpose areas as well as a full commercial kitchen and cafeteria.
Phase 1 was completed when the space was unoccupied, prior to the start of the 2023/24 school year. Phase 2 was completed during the school year, navigating around the then-occupied Phase 1 area. KasCon coordinated construction mindful of all school activities to avoid any conflicts with the students and staff.
